How to choose

01Your two working heights

Sitting you need around 43% of your height and standing, around 62%. A standing desk only works if its travel covers both: the expensive mistake is falling short at the top.

02Count the thickness of the tabletop

Frames state their height without a tabletop. If you buy the structure separately, add 1.8 to 2.5 cm: that difference decides whether you reach your standing height or not.

03Motor, load and noise

Dual motor for two screens or a heavy load: it rises faster, wobbles less as you type and makes less noise. A single motor is enough for a light tabletop with one monitor.

04Presets and safety

Without height presets, most people stop changing posture within two weeks. Anti-collision saves you from crushing a drawer unit, and the child lock saves you from surprises with kids around.

How we chose this list

We start from the specs each manufacturer publishes, not from opinions: height range, load, type of lumbar support, connection and warranty. Every figure is verified against its official source, with the date it was checked noted on the product page.

The order comes from the formula published in how we choose, the same for every product, with or without an affiliate programme. Each model's award is the objective criterion it leads on within this list. See the method.

What we don't do yet: physically test every model. When we do, we will say so and sign it. We also don't publish third-party ratings or review counts, because we cannot verify them.

Frequently asked questions

What standing height do I need if I am 1.90 m tall?

Around 118 cm (62% of your height, at elbow level). A desk that stops at 120 cm is just enough; below 118, it is not.

What if the desk does not rise enough?

There is no comfortable fix: raising the top with risers compromises stability. It is better to pay for the right range from the start.
